In Christy's Shoes Benefits Local Charities

Jenny Rogers

Christy Levy Peters loved shoes. Her best girlfriends and family members knew this, of course. So, when making plans to celebrate her life, they did so with a nod to her fun, fearless and fashionable spirit.

In Christy's Shoes was created by Christy's twin sister Katrina Levy Zidel and friends Becky Sweeney and Jacki Barnett in 2009 as a small memorial luncheon for Christy, who, in 2007, lost her battle with brain cancer at 33. The young mother who had fought with grace and determination was beloved by many in her community, and the event was created to honor her memory while benefiting those in need.

In Christy's Shoes hosts an annual fashion show that raises funds for local nonprofits. This year's event-hosted May 14 at St. Charles Preparatory School's Walter Commons Area-will include the shoe-focused fashion show, a silent auction featuring celebrity-autographed shoes, appearances by renowned fashion photographer Nigel Barker and models Dominique Reighard and Keith Carlos (of "America's Next Top Model" fame), live music, hors d'oeuvres and more. Tickets are $75 each and proceeds benefit the organization's mission.
