Furniture Store Brings Back $5 Million Deal for Buckeyes Fans

Morris Furniture Co. wants to give away $5 million dollars' worth of furniture this football season. The catch? The Ohio State Buckeyes must defend their title as national champions. But wait, there's more: The Buckeyes must win the championship game by the same margin as last season-22 or more points.

Customers are eligible if they made a purchase of $1,999 or more between Aug. 26 and Sept. 15 at Morris Home Furnishings, Ashley Furniture HomeStore or the Better Sleep Shop. If OSU pulls off an epic repeat, those customers get a full rebate.

The Fairborn, Ohio-based company ran a similar promotion last season and paid up to $1.5 million in rebates when Ohio State won. "We had so many customers who said, 'Gosh, I wish I had participated,' " says company spokesman Robert Klaben. "We decided that if the opportunity came up, we'd try to do it again.

"Tying into sports can be very attractive, and particularly a team that was such a success story last year and is the preseason No. 1 ranked team," Klaben says.

Is Morris totally on the hook if the Buckeyes once again win the championships? Not exactly. The company works with a third party to underwrite the promotion.
