The New Albany Symphony Orchestra will perform a special sensory-friendly holiday concert this weekend.

Santa and the Symphony, conducted by NASO Music Director Luis Biava, will feature holiday tunes and audience interaction, as well as a cookie with Santa Claus. The concert will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Schottenstein Theater in the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts, 100 W. Dublin-Granville Road, New Albany.

This is the first concert in the NASO's new Saturday at the Symphony series. The lineup of 45-minute performances is designed for families with young children, those on the autism spectrum and adults with Alzheimer's or dementia.

Audience members can move around and talk, and house lights will be on but dimmed. The lobby will have "chill-out" zones with hands-on activities, an instrument petting zoo and communication cards. To prepare for the concert, patrons can download a "What to Expect at the Concert" story board and/or attend a "Meet Your Seat" event.

Tickets are $12 to $15. For more information, go to
