THE BACKSTORY: Meagan Warren, 13, of Bexley is the founder of Books for Bedtime, a nonprofit organization that aims to get reading materials into the hands of local kids and families in need.

Meagan, who's as ambitious as she is well-spoken, started the effort in 2014 when she was 11 years old. Since then, she's donated more than 27,000 books through schools and other organizations around Central Ohio.

Her work has won her numerous awards and even earned her recognition from the Cleveland Browns, who asked her to be a coin-toss captain at their September 2015 home game against the Tennessee Titans. She's proud of a photo that hangs on the door of her room at home that shows her with players including Donte Whitner (who now plays for the Washington Redskins). “That wasthe coolest thing I've ever done,” she said.

The books you see her surrounded by in this issue were a donation fromColumbus Parent. We gave Meagan about 330 books that were sent to us by publishers; we routinely collect such items and give them to local nonprofits.

Meagan was a trouper for our hour-long shoot. Photographer Lorrie Cecil set the books up in three configurations to ensure we'd have ample shots from which to choose.

The day we took the photos just happened to be the two-year anniversary of the day Meagan gave away her first books at a local charter school.
