Central Ohioans can celebrate National Ice Cream Month with a series of special events at Velvet Ice Cream.
The Utica company, in business since 1914, will offer family-friendly entertainment at its Ye Olde Mill facility on July 3 (Magic Man, Jo Jo the Clown and Eddie Powel Square Dance) and July 9 (Tom & the Cruisers), with other promotions throughout the month. Velvet will observe National Ice Cream Day on July 16 with $1 single-dip cones. Special flavors include Lemon Cheesecake, Spicy Caramel and Sticky Pudding.
Each year, more than 150,000 people tour and visit Ye Olde Mill, which has a museum, restaurant, playground, fishing pond and picnic area. Summer visitors can see live entertainment on Thursdays and Sundays. The fourth-generation family business makes more than 5 million gallons of ice cream annually.
