Library, WOSU Host Weekend Reading Events
Main Library in Downtown Columbus will host two free events this weekend related to PBS’ search to find America’s favorite book.
WOSU Public Media and Columbus Metropolitan Library are partnering on the events in honor of “The Great American Read,” the public broadcasting network’s campaign to name the country’s best-loved book.
Adults can take the “50 Facts About Columbus Quiz” from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 10. Hosts are Christopher Purdy, host of both All Sides Weekend on 89.7 NPR News and Classical 101; Kassie Rose, a book critic for WOSU Public Media; and Columbus Metropolitan Library book expert Robin Nesbitt. Hors d’oeuvres, drinks and door prizes will be offered. Registration is required at wosu.org/event/the-great-american-read-trivia-night.
Kids can get into the action at family fun day Aug. 11, which offers activities, crafts, and a storytime. The event, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., also features a chance to meet PBS Kids characters.
“The Great American Read” campaign, aimed at starting a national conversation about reading, launched in May when PBS announced the 100 books in contention for the top honor. Viewers have been voting online for their favorite title, which is expected to be announced in October.
