Real Wedding Wednesdays: Becky Fluke and John Shaffer

Family was an integral part of Becky and John Shaffer’s October wedding. All of the vintage books in the table centerpieces belonged to their grandparents and great-grandparents, and the lace tablecloth on the sweetheart’s table belonged to Becky’s grandmother. (Becky’s parents used it in their wedding, too!) The bride was accompanied down the aisle by her brother, and she carried her grandmother’s broaches and a picture of her father, who had passed away only six months before she met John, in her bouquet.
The best man was the groom’s 10-year-old son, and the flower girls, ring bearers and program helpers were all young members of the bride’s and groom’s families. Instead of doing a father/daughter dance, important men in Becky’s life, including her brother, took turns dancing with her to the song “Rocket Man” by Elton John in another tribute to Becky’s late father.
As the couple’s magical night ended, they were surrounded by those who love them and were able to “see, hear, and feel all the love in that room as we turned in circles to see everyone,” says Becky. The last song of the night was “Piano Man” by Billy Joel, and the entire group sang along before falling into a giant group hug. Becky remembers this moment fondly, describing it as “perfect!”
