Lessons Learned: Advice from Stacia Napolitano

Emma Frankart Henterly

Stacia and Julian Napolitano’s wedding took place on Dec. 30, 2017, at the Columbus Athenaeum.

If you could do anything about your wedding differently, what would you change and why?

We wouldn't change a thing.

What are you happy you spent money on?

We are happy to have hired a videographer. We were initially on the fence about it but are thankful to have hired Columbus Wedding Videos and have a beautiful video to cherish.

What do you think you could have done without?

Our wedding website. I created a customized website on and paid for a domain name. It wasn't utilized fully and was time/money that could have been spent elsewhere.

What was your biggest surprise when planning your wedding?

How much detail and planning it took. But it was well worth it and made the day go off flawlessly.

What do you wish you'd known before you started planning?

No matter how much you plan and prepare, there will be stress during the process.

Did you experience any wedding-day snafus?

I wanted to get some outdoor photos. We stepped outside during our first look photos and I got sludge and snow on my dress and train. Thankfully my sister was able to get it out before the ceremony.

Did you and your fiancé get into any silly arguments?

We compromised on the things that mattered to both of us.

Any dress shopping advice?

Be open to trying on different styles than what you imagine yourself in. Take friends/family that will be honest and patient with you.

What about menswear?

Get what you like and feel good in, because you can continue to wear it after the wedding.

Do you have any general advice for couples currently planning their weddings?

We had a master to-do list and broke it down with a monthly to-do list for six months up to the wedding. We hung our monthly list on the fridge. Ask for and accept help from others. Enjoy the process, because the day arrives quickly. Spend money on what's most important to you, and budget for the less important things.

Do you have any general marriage advice, as a newlywed?

Keep open communication, plan date nights and don't take each other for granted.
