Real Wedding Wednesdays: Stephanie Mitchell and Austin Shockey

Stephanie and Austin Shockey know how to take things in stride. What might have been annoying or problematic to other couples—Austin messing up his vows during the ceremony—was a source of humor for the Shockeys and their guests.
“Everyone started laughing,” Stephanie recalls. “Austin then stated, ‘This is my first time,’ which made everyone laugh harder and calmed our nerves.”
The rest of the wedding was filled with personal touches from both sides of the family. Stephanie’s gown included a heart-shaped cutout from the wedding dress her grandmother had made for herself 60 years prior, while her bouquet was accompanied by the handheld family Bible—complete with seven previous generations of married couples’ signatures. Austin’s family baked hundreds of cookies to fill the cookie table at the reception, which doubled as guests’ favors at the end of the evening.
