Real Wedding Wednesdays: Jaime DiThomas and David Scott

Jaime and David Scott’s love story is one of coincidences. It began when they met on OKCupid. Each had used the service for only a week, but that was enough—their first date at the now-closed Claddagh Irish Pub included hours of conversation. “At the end of the night, I felt like I had known him forever,” Jaime recalls. “We found out that night that one of my best friends … who also became my matron of honor, was friends with Dave’s sister and had known his family since high school.”

Coincidences continued through their two years of dating, when they both started new jobs shortly after getting engaged. That one resulted in a long engagement, “to preserve our sanity,” Jaime says.

On the big day, both Jaime and David planned surprises for the other during the reception. Jaime broke into song during her bouquet toss—Kanye West’s “Gold Digger”—but says David topped her with his garter removal. First, he disappeared.

“I was furious as I was sitting alone in the center of the room in front of 200 people,” she says. “That is, until the lights went out; a spotlight appears on the door to the hall, where my new husband is standing, dressed as Indiana Jones—complete with whip and hat. He comes barreling down the aisle, rolling around tables to the Indiana Jones theme song. He gets to me, tips his hat up in Indy fashion, reaches under my gown and pulls out a golden idol from the movies, with my garter around it! People are still talking about it.”
