Styled Shoot: A Midwest Fairy Tale

Emma Frankart Henterly

Golden hour—that beautiful, fleeting period just before sunset when the light is warm and the air seems to glow—is well-known among photographers as an ideal time to take outdoor photos. That same hour was the inspiration behind this photo shoot at The Hitching Post Ranch.

“We love the idea of unexpected combinations and high-contrast themes to reflect the inner soul of a small-Midwest-town-meets-endless-romance,” says shoot coordinator Beth Francis of Moonstruck for Life. “The shoot reflects the organic and wild atmosphere of this working ranch as a backdrop for a fairy tale that developed in the heart of the Midwest.”

The shoot itself is full of real love, Francis adds; The Hitching Post Ranch owners Mick and Lisa Ritchie kicked things off years ago when they wed right there on the property; the shoot’s models, David and Abigail Francis, are a local couple married more than 10 years.

“We love this setting not only for its unspoiled, rustic elegance, but because its owners believe that love well-planted will grow to offer shade for its disciples,” Francis says. “Couples who marry here may plant a tree in the wedding forest, then return for years and enjoy picnics or quiet walks in this lush setting, reminding themselves that fairy tales and dreams do come true.”

The Hitching Post Ranch officially opened for business last month in Lancaster; the 200-acre property features two lakes, rolling hills and roaming horses and cattle.
