Real Wedding Wednesdays: Joy Fetter and Tom Russell

Everyone wants a spouse who would follow them to the ends of the Earth. Lucky for Joy Russel, she found just that in her husband, Tom.

The two met at their church’s youth group, but it wasn’t until returning from a stint in the Army that Tom began running with Joy as she trained for a half marathon. Their agreement was that the winner of their casual races would buy the other ice cream. Soon after the official race, they began to date.

After dating for a year and a half, Tom and Joy found themselves on the trail again, training for another race. It was on Joy’s favorite trail that Tom popped the question, with a little help from their dog, Kylo, who delivered the ring.

After a short engagement, the couple got married with the help of many friends and family members. Joy’s brother-in-law Derek Wright, an ordained pastor, officiated; her sister sang; her coworker played at the reception; and their photographer was a friend of Tom’s sister.

A unique detail of the reception was the lack of a cake. With frozen treats laying the foundation of their relationship, it seemed fitting to forgo the traditional dessert in favor of an ice cream truck. We hope the happy couple found their honeymoon in Ireland to be just as sweet!
