A small circular enclosure (155 feet in diameter) located at the southeastern opening of the Newark Octagon Earthworks is also where the Moundbuilder's Country Club put the third hole. The Octagon Earthworks hopes to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Moundbuilder's Country Club, an 18-hole golf course, leases the property from the Ohio History Connection.

Columbus Dispatch videographer Doral Chenoweth III put together this drone video of Newark’s Octagon Earthworks to accompany Columbus Monthly senior editor Chris Gaitten’s feature in the September issue on the 70-acre ancient wonder, which the Ohio History Connection hopes to bring global renown to—if it can just remove the private golf course that has been tasked with its preservation. Ohio History Connection archaeologist Brad Lepper narrates the aerial footage.
