Real Wedding Wednesdays: Brittney Wex and Alex Haas

Nicholas Youngblood

Some couples find moving in together to be one of the biggest hurdles in their relationship. For Brittney and Alex Haas, it was just the first step toward building one.

The pair first met when Brittney’s roommate—who happened to be Alex’s sister——decided to study abroad for the summer. Alex subleased the apartment and quickly hit it off with his temporary roomie.

They dated for six years before Alex popped the question. On a spontaneous trip to Seattle, the couple meant to go hiking, but quickly realized they were ill-prepared for the soggy Washington weather. Instead, they opted to stop at Snoqualmie Falls, which was “more of a tourist attraction than the secluded trails we had tried to find,” Brittney recalls. Still, it was here that Alex got down on one knee while Brittney was attempting to set up her camera for a picture. “We were so happy that neither of us can remember if I actually said yes,” Brittney says.

At their wedding 18 months later, the duo continued to wing it. After having a behind-schedule first look, they arrived to the ceremony with just five minutes to spare. “Everyone was freaking out, but we knew they couldn't start without us,” Brittney says. During the ceremony, she remembers sharing frequent, knowing looks with her partner when they both had no idea what they were supposed to be doing.

Brittney and Alex certainly have a penchant for improvisation, and it hasn’t steered them wrong yet.
