Real Wedding Wednesdays: Kara Hansell and Jordan Aron

Emma Frankart Henterly

Kara and Jordan Aron’s wedding theme of “modern romance” could easily describe the course of their relationship as well. The pair met on the dating app Hinge, through which Jordan invited himself to a taco festival with Kara and her friend. There, Jordan was especially nice to Kara’s friend, based on advice gleaned from the popular 2005 Will Smith movie, “Hitch”—and Kara assumed Jordan was more interested in her friend than in her. Imagine her shock when, the next day, Jordan asked her out.

The couple, who lives in Chicago, dated for 2 ½ years before they flew to Paris together. Jordan had a little extra something in a TSA-approved plastic baggie: an engagement ring. He proposed during a picnic lunch in Luxembourg Gardens, with nearby strangers filming and photographing the event at his request.

“We got to spend the next four days exploring more of Paris as an engaged couple, before heading back home to reality,” Kara recalls.

One year later, the pair were wed in a ceremony that was officiated by Kara’s uncle and that featured the rings of their respective grandparents. Two other uncles provided ceremony music on keyboard and saxophone, making the entire affair an extremely personal and family-oriented one.

The day also featured some surprises for the newlyweds, courtesy their planner, Natasha Churches of Aisle & Co. She made the reception room reveal especially memorable, Kara says, by adding the couple’s monogram—originally planned only for the gobo lighting and acrylic seating chart—to the bars, dessert table and custom napkins on Jordan and Kara’s seats.

Also memorable, Kara adds, was the “very emotional” first look between her and Jordan on the skybridge between the Hilton Columbus Downtown and the Greater Columbus Convention Center, as well as “looking around the room and being surrounded by all of our loved ones who had traveled far to celebrate with us.”
