Meet the Vendor: Ohio Statehouse

Arguably one of the most photogenic venues in Columbus, the Ohio Statehouse has long been a destination for ceremonies and receptions, as well as cocktail hour photos for couples whose weddings take place elsewhere. The elegant environs are the perfect backdrop for any wedding-day event, from a ceremony or cocktail hour in the Rotunda to dinner in the Atrium. Special events manager Shannon Pruzinsky tells us more about the stunning, historic venue, which was completed in 1861.

What spaces are available for rental?

The Atrium’s Greek columns reach up to the glass-and-bronze ceiling and surround the granite floor of the magnificent space. On the east side, the grand staircase to the Senate Building was inspired by the Paris Opera House. This centerpiece of the building offers more than 4,000 square feet of space and can accommodate up to 500.

The 120-foot-high, domed Rotunda has an inlaid marble floor, enormous pieces of original art and a 28-foot glass skylight bearing a hand-painted reproduction of the 1847 Seal of Ohio. Its 3,000 square feet can accommodate up to 300.

Often used as a bridal ready room and for portraits, the plantation-shuttered State Room is furnished with antiques, a piano, green velvet chairs and more. The 125-year-old oval dining table seats 16; the room’s 1,100 square feet can hold up to 50 guests.

Downstairs, the Museum Gallery features arched limestone walls, brick floors and wrought-iron lanterns. At nearly 1,800 square feet, the space can accommodate up to 300.

Other spaces, both indoor and out, are ideal for a variety of other wedding-day events and needs.
