Lessons Learned: Advice from Blaique Brown

Emma Frankart Henterly

Blaique Brown married Michael DeMaria on April 20, 2019, at the Ohio State University Faculty Club.

If you could do anything about your wedding differently, what would you change and why?

Absolutely nothing. It was everything I knew it would be.

What are you happy you spent money on?

Real flowers, all-inclusive venue, photography, videography.

What do you think you could have done without?

We probably didn't need programs, but I thought every person in our party deserved to be recognized.

What was your biggest surprise when planning your wedding?

The hardest part was planning where to have the guests stay.

What do you wish you’d known before you started planning?

How quickly everything adds up.

Did you experience any wedding-day snafus?

We were running late getting to the venue, so I rode with one of my bridesmen in his car and the other two bridesmen rode in front of us going 90 mph down 315, acting as cop-catchers, so we could get there on time.

Any dress-shopping advice?

Go with your gut, and don't be afraid to customize! I knew exactly what I wanted and didn’t even try some things on because I knew that wasn’t what I wanted. When I put on my dress, I knew the bones were there but I wanted more sparkle, so I added it!

Do you have any general advice for couples currently planning their weddings?

It's your day! Don’t let anyone else’s opinions or past wedding derail what the two of you want.

Do you have any general marriage advice, as a newlywed?

Be silly! Humor is the best way to lighten a tough day.
