Make your child's next doctor visit more bear-able

Join Nationwide Children's Hospital and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium for Teddy Bear Safari. It's a great day for the entire family to learn about the fascinating world of medicine (in a non-scary way) and make your child's next pediatric visit more bear-able.

Child's admission to the Zoo is free with a teddy bear or other stuffed animal friend. Start your Teddy Bear Safari at the Bear Care Den in the Zoo's Activity Pavilion, where doctors and staff from Nationwide Children's Hospital will "examine" and "treat" your child's fuzzy friend. Visit more than 20 interactive educational and fun exhibits, including "Bear Check-ups" and "A Very Beary Hospital Stay."

Children and their stuffed animal friends will get special attention for those unexpected bumps, bruises and boo boos. Participate in hands-on educational activities including an ambulance tour and free face painting. Meet Nationwide Children's Hospital's safety ambassador, Safe-T-Saurus, along with the Zoo's costumed characters.

Navigate the mathematics jungle

As important as math skills may be for students, many of them still dread the portion of the school day set aside for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Math Monkey, a Florida-based program aimed at children ages 5 to 14, recently opened its first central Ohio franchise at 9681 Sawmill Road in Powell.

Math Monkey utilizes Vedic math, an Indian discipline that unifies and interrelates mathematical techniques and allows many math problems to be solved mentally with greater speed than normal. Math Monkey was founded about two years ago by Kirsten Fisch, who discovered the effectiveness of Vedic math while abroad.

For more information, call (877) 468-6284, ext. 1048, or contact Math Monkey via e-mail at powellSC_CODE_ATmathmonkeymail.com.

Brainiums provides a tasty way for kids to get omega-3

What's yummy and gummy and comes from the sea? Nutrilite Brainiums DHA, a natural source of key omega-3 fatty acids and great for children. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for optimal function of cells. They can be obtained by eating fish or taking fish oil, but Brainiums provides a much tastier alternative.

The average American diet contains less than 200 mg of omega-3, because not many adults like to eat fish, and the number of children that do so is much less. A simple, tasty solution is to incorporate Brainiums into a child's daily routine. With Brainiums, parents can rest assured that their children are receiving the recommended daily allowance of omega-3. Nutrilite Brainiums DHA can be ordered online at www.brainiums.com, or visit www.nutrilite.com to learn more about the Nutrilite brand of vitamin, mineral and dietary supplements.
