The annual "Heart of Ohio Jet Scramble" is scheduled to take place Aug. 24, 25 and 26.

Presented by the Ohio Radio Kontrol Society Inc., the event will be held at the organization's "Field of Dreams," 6321 Young Road off state route 665.

Public admission is free. Parking is $5 a vehicle.

Food concessions will be available on the site.

"The whine of turbine engines and the smell of jet fuel will be part of the day's activities at the Ohio Jet Scramble in August in Grove City," according to the Web site of the Grove City Visitors and Convention Bureau. "A similar aerial competition in September charts a new direction as the first environmentally friendly aerial show of its kind in the United States.

"The September Scramble will feature for the first time all electric jet model aircraft.

Hundreds of large-scale model jet aircraft will soar through the Central Ohio skies Aug. 22-24 at the 18th annual Ohio Jet Scramble and at the second event Sept. 19-21.

Fossil fuel aircraft at the August competition are equipped with miniature turbine jet engines that easily cost thousands of dollars. These planes reach speeds of 200 plus miles per hour and soar to over 1,500 feet.

Planes are frequently 12 feet in length with wing spans of eight feet.

"These models are just like the big jets, only miniature in size," event coordinator Terry Nitsch, a Grove City resident, is quoted as saying.

On Sept. 19-21, the Ohio Radio Kontrol Society will host its second Scramble and showcase the latest technology, including planes equipped with electric jet engines.

"This is the first all 'green' jet air show of its kind in the United States and we anticipate a great response from pilot-owners from throughout the country," according to Nitsch, event chairperson. "We're proud to host this event and anticipate this it will grow in popularity especially with so much talk about green technology in motor vehicles. I won't be surprised to see other similar shows held in other states next year, but it is a great honor that we were the first."
