Fall for these fashions: Top trends for autumn

When the fall 2009 market was showing on the runway, our economy wasn't in the best of shape. Buyers for boutiques, as well designers (for both children and adults) weren't as creative as they usually are. Everyone was a bit more reserved.

No one knows how quickly the economy will rebound, but we think designers gave us good reasons to buy new stuff. Let's look at our favorite items for the upcoming cool weather.

Tiny Timmy

(newborn to 5)

Want to keep your little guy warm this season? UGG has new styles for even the littlest feet in your family. We loved this camo pair available at uboots.com.au.

Mad for plaid mommy

Plaids are still fresh. Many of the local boutiques' fall collections include plaid. We loved this last fall and we love it again. Add a cardigan sweater and denim and you're out the door.

Available at RonHerman.com.

Lovely Lola

(for your little princess, newborn to size 14)

Watch for stripes and large patterns this fall. If you haven't added these to your favorite little one's wardrobe, do so immediately. They are practical and comfortable, too. We love the ones by Kicky Pants (kickypants.com). Available at one of our favorite children's boutiques: Fireflies and Fairytales in Upper Arlington.

Hoodie-loving Henry (for teen boys):

We know that boys don't want to be "dressed up." This season, put Mr. McMoodypants in a hooded sweatshirt and track pants or denim. He'll look fashionable (and won't fight you on the outfit). You don't need to break the bank on this look, either. We found cool inexpensive hoodies at Gap and Old Navy.

Dramatic Danielle

(for 13-going-on 30-year-old girls)

Prints keep coming for fall. For adults, you'll see prints on silks, dresses, bottoms, tops ... everywhere! But your tween will love to feel pretty in this print skirt from Nordstrom and you'll love the price ($22). If it's too short, add black leggings.

We know ... you're ready for more. If only we could have summer days and fall nights (to wear our favorite pieces, of course) all year long. But fall fashions started arriving in stores last month, so get your list together and get shopping!

Continue making every day a runway!
