Day 5: The Arts Castle

Established in 1986, The Arts Castle moved to its current facility, an 1854 Anglo-Norman "castle" two years later.

Our mission is to nurture the creative energies of the residents of central Ohio by offering access to a variety of art experiences such as classes, workshops, performances, exhibitions, and special events. We annually serve 10,000 residents in central Ohio through these opportunities.

In 2008, we conducted a total of 412 classes and workshops, including painting, drawing, dance, music, ceramics, literature, theatre arts, and much more. These programs provided opportunities for a total of 3,217 individual registrants.

Our students range in age from infants under two-years-old to retirement age. In addition to classes and workshops, The Arts Castle annually offers at least six art exhibitions that are open to the public free of charge. A volunteer management team maintains our Gallery Shop, highlighting the work of local artists.

The Arts Castle is proud to be recognized as both a premier arts center and a historic landmark in Ohio.

Most recently, the Arts Castle was included as one of the organizations that made Delaware one of Ohio Magazine's "Top Five Hometowns" (November 2007 issue) as well as being featured in the May/June 2008 edition of Over the Back Fence magazine. We are consistently ranked among the Top 25 Cultural Attractions (Non Profit) in Columbus Business First's "Book of Lists."

Our mission to the central Ohio community is supported by a core of dedicated volunteers. From helping with special events and mailings, to working in our Gallery Shop, assisting with IT/web support and tending to the needs of our 155 year-old home, volunteers make the difference. For more information on how you can become part of The Arts Castle family, visit or call us at 740-369-ARTS.

The Arts Castle was founded with a grassroots effort by the community and for the community. We are recognized as one of Ohio's premier community teaching centers for the arts. Join us by taking a class, visiting an exhibit, or participating in one of our special events.

About the series

The 12 Days of Giving is a project initiated by Columbus Parent Magazine to give non-profit organizations an outlet for their message.

In these tough economic times, non-profit organizations are the first to see their resources evaporate.

These great organizations rely on your time, talent, and treasure to make a difference in our community. Please consider becoming a sponsor of one of these great community leaders.
