The Papa John's Story

Papa John's International

As a high school student working at a local pizza pub in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Papa John's founder John Schnatter realized that there was something missing from national pizza chains; a superior-quality traditional pizza delivered to the customer's door. His dream was to one day open a pizza restaurant that would fill that void.

In 1983, "Papa" John Schnatter delivered his last campus pizza, picked up his business degree from Ball State University, and went back to Jeffersonville, Indiana. At age 22, he knocked down the broom closet in his father's tavern (Mick's Lounge), sold his prized 1971 Z28 Camaro, purchased $1,600 worth of used restaurant equipment, and began delivering pizzas out of the back of the bar.

Papa John's opened its first pizza restaurant in 1984 and to this day is committed to delivering on its brand promise of "Better Ingredients. Better Pizza." Papa John's is the recognized quality leader of the pizza category and now owns or franchises over 3,000 restaurants worldwide.

Papa John's Pizza | Columbus, Ohio

Here in the Columbus area, we have a similar story. We opened our first Papa John's in 1991 on Bethel Road. It was the 130th store of the over 3,000 Papa John's locations today.

We have built our Papa John's franchise one store at a time during the past 18 years and are still growing. Most recently, we have added locations on Fifth Avenue in Grandview, Main Street in Bexley, and our newest location at Lane Avenue and High Street in downtown Columbus.

We operate 22 Columbus-area Papa John's from right here in Columbus. We live here in Columbus and work from our offices on Bethel Road, right where it all began. While we are extremely proud of Papa John's and the foundation of quality on which it was built, we are even more proud that we have been able to serve the greater Columbus area.

Lastly, we want to say thanks for your support over the past 18 years, and we look forward to continuing to deliver on the promise of "Better Ingredients, Better Pizza" for years to come!
