From our intrepid games reviewer, Shawn Sines, comes his take on two new games for teens… Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection (Sony PS3, $40, Rated T for Teen) Video games are often loud and abrasive action fests, but every once in awhile players are treated to something quite different. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are two games known for changing up the dynamic quite a bit. Instead of loud action, both games feature subdued visuals and puzzle based gameplay within the wrapping of action titles. Ico focuses on a mysterious young boy who is exiled from his home and dreams of rescuing a princess. While it's a familiar setup, the game tells a compelling tale full of twists on the way to its touching conclusion. Shadow of the Colossus is a minimalist game full of shadows and darkness. A young man seeks out ancient guardians on a quest to save his beloved with some dire consequences. Armed only with a sword and bow he faces off against four story creatures in his bid to resurrect his lost love. Both games are suitable for older children and teens and while they lack the explosive pace of most modern games, these HD upgraded classics demonstrate well how games can also become art.
