Just because summer vacation is over doesn't mean the fun and relaxation have to be. Hocking Hills Canopy Tours ( launched an attraction this summer called Off-Road Segway Adventures. On the two-hour guided tours, visitors ride through Hocking Hills' lush landscape on a Segway made especially for off-roading. The tours cost $59 per person and are available to adventurers age 14 and older. Three zipline adventures also recently made their debut at the Hocking Hills hotspot - Sunrise, Twilight and X-treme, which includes ziplining through a cave.


Or head an hour southeast of Columbus to the recently renovated R Adventure Park (, a smorgasbord of outdoor fun. It offers a bevy of activities tailored so the whole family can enjoy them, including ATV riding, a paintball range, a mud run, a zipline rail and the country's largest ropes course.


Have fun sans family at Playcations, a new recreational play center that offers special, planned playdates for adults. "Play" can mean a lot of things, such as drawing, doing improv, playing Wii and - get this - napping! It sounds like a mirage, but you can find Playcations at 403 W. Main St. in Westerville ( A play session costs $50 an hour, and child care is available starting at $10 an hour.
