Egg salad at Katzinger's

Have you ever had the egg salad from Katzinger's? I hadn't, only because I usually go straight for the corned beef at the beloved German Village deli. But I was feeling decidedly un-meaty last night and was intrigued by a menu description claiming the deli has the best egg salad in town. Anytime a restaurant starts busting out the superlatives, you can bet that's what I'm going to order.

#33 Becker's Belt 'Em: The best egg salad in town, Applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, Hellmann's mayonnaise on rye, $8.25 big, $9.75 huge. I will admit that I've not had nearly close to all of the egg salads in town, so I can't attest to whether this is truly the best, but it's pretty darn good--mustardy, with lots of big chunks of hard-boiled egg. And that smoked bacon is wonderful, plus adds a punch of saltiness that's missing from a lot of egg salad sandwiches.

I also grabbed a Katzinger's Homemade Potato Knish ($2.50) because it sounded pretty amazing. And it was. The deli's version of the Eastern European specialty is pastry dough surrounding mashed potatoes and caramelized onions. Such a delicious snack.

So what do you think? Does Katzinger's really have the best egg salad in town? Who else does a good version?
