We sent our November issue of Crave to the printer last week, so that means I get a little bit of a break on the eating-out front. There was nowhere I necessarily HAD to eat this weekend for work purposes, so instead I went for whatever I was craving. Which happened to be breakfast and sushi. Oh, and crepes. Here's a look at what I ate this weekend:
Big 'Ol Omelet: Made with your choice of fillings. I picked cheddar, bacon, green peppers and tomatoes.
Also had a bit of the Mexican French Toast (top): Sourdough toast spiced up with cinnamon, nutmeg and Mexican chocolate, served with their sweet-and-spicy bacon, my favorite in the city.
HONEY DIP DONUTS DINER
Honey Dip remodeled its Kenny Road donut shop a few months back and is now serving breakfast and lunch. I checked out their breakfast offerings over the weekend.
Vegetarian Omelet: Yes, another omelet. It's got Swiss, onions, tomatoes, green peppers and mushrooms. Served with home fries and toast. Just diner food, but done really well.
Fried Egg, Bacon and Cheese breakfast sandwich. On Texas toast. Yum. Maybe I was subconsciously craving breakfast this weekend in anticipation of Breakfast Week Columbus, a week's worth of special breakfast events tied to the release of local blogger Nick Dekker's book, "Breakfast With Nick." And then, the sushi. I tried two new-to-me sushi spots that I've been meaning to check out for a while. At Edamame near Easton, I got:
Edamame roll: Tuna, salmon, whitefish, cucumber, avocado, masago, radish sprouts in a soy wrap topped with spicy mayo and unagi sauce.
Morse roll: Spicy salmon, cucumber, topped with tuna and spicy mayo
Spider roll: Panko soft shell crab, masago, avocado, cucumber, tonkatsu sauce
Also swung by the new Aoi (pronounced OW-ee) sushi bar on Bethel and picked up sushi at their drive-through window. I'd like to go back and eat in at some point soon (it looks pretty neat inside), but for my purposes this weekend, drive-through sushi was perfect.
Volcano roll: Asparagus, avocado, crab, tobiko, cream cheese with grilled fish on top. Probably much prettier ordered in than takout.
Finally, crepes. I forgot to take pictures of the crepes. But I got (and thoroughly enjoyed) the Bacon Okonomiyaki (kinda like a breakfast crepe, fitting with the weekend's theme) and the Kabocha Pumpkin Creme Brulee, which was insanely delicious. It had fresh Snowville whipped cream, creamy pumpkin custard and even little shards of crunchy caramelized sugar.
