Happy hour at Hounddog's

Shelley Mann, Columbus Alive

Half-price happy hour drinks are, of course, awesome, but I'm not generally a happy hour food aficionado. Generally it's just half-price appetizers or something, so I choose to devote my full HH budget to booze and save my appetite for a proper dinner. However. I recently indulged in this steal of a happy hour deal at Hounddog's and just had to share it.

This north-of-campus spot, fondly known as Home of the Smokin' Joe's crust, has a special available every day between 4-9 p.m. that includes a pitcher of beer and a pizza for $10. Ten bucks!

Now, the beers eligible for this deal are only the domestic lagers (go for Yuengling), and the pizzas can only have one topping, but the 12-inch small pies easily serves two hungry people. Date night, anyone? We tried the mushroom Smokin' Joes (a thicker crust drenched in garlic butter), and while it didn't taste as good to my pre-buzz happy hour state as it would if I were consuming it post-a-few-pitchers, it made for a tasty and cheap dinner.
