Dessert: Cool off with J-Pops

Shelley Mann, Columbus Alive

Popsicles aren't just for kids. The classic summer cool-down treat has gotten a decidedly grown-up makeover with J-Pops, a Columbus-based gourmet ice-pop company.

Steven White's handcrafted popsicles come in sophisticated seasonal flavors such as Grapefruit Hibiscus, Cucumber Lime Mint and Sour Plum, inspired by fresh herbs and seasonal produce from local farmers markets.

J-Pops, a riff on the Japanese term for pop music, were originally created in 2011 as a way to raise money for victims of the devastating Japanese earthquake and tsunami. Now, White makes his custom pops at ECDI's Food Fort, and you can find them at Celebrate Local, Hills Market Downtown and various farmers markets and festivals.
