Sweet Endings: Hoooray for Salty Caramel
Say "salty caramel," and people hear Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. But the flavor combo isn't reserved only for her beloved ice cream.
Salty Caramel Crepe
Though owner Wayne Moore says it was inspired by Jeni's popular ice cream flavor, the Salty Caramel Crepe at Village Crepe presents the flavor combination in a totally different way. Sea salt and caramel sauce blend with cream cheese inside a warm, fluffy dessert-style crepe. More caramel sauce is drizzled over the top, followed by the lightest dusting of powdered sugar and another dash of chunky sea salt. It's no surprise Moore sells more of this French-toast sweet crepe than any other on the menu. villagecrepe-pickerington.com
Salty Caramel Shortbread
At Tuula's European Cafe, Tuula Mallonen tops her classic crumbly shortbread cookie with a thick layer of rich, sticky caramel to create the Salty Caramel Shortbread she bakes from scratch at the cafe she opened in 2008. Even with the salty undertones in the buttery shortbread topped with dark chocolate frosting and more sea salt, this cookie is seriously sweet. You'll want a napkin and a glass of milk to wash it down. tuulaseuropeancafe.com
