Support hunger relief with FoodFight

Anthony Dominic, Crave

If you're planning to dine out this Wednesday, chances are you'll have a hand in delivering a meal to someone in need.

For the sixth consecutive year, nearly 200 area restaurants and bars have teamed up for FoodFight, the Mid-Ohio Foodbank's "eat out to fight hunger" initiative.

Participating is easy. Make any purchase at a select location during regular business hours (this includes carryout orders), and five percent of your bill will support Operation Feed, which provides meals to those in need across Central Ohio.

Not sure where to start? From 6 to 8 p.m. the Columbus Young Professionals Club will host a promotional happy hour at Strongwater Food and Spirits in Franklinton. A number of locations may offer one-day specials, says Yolanda Owens, the foodbank's communications and digital media manager, so it's worth swinging by your favorite spots.

If you make purchases at three or more participating locations, the Mid-Ohio Foodbank wants to hear about it. Tag the foodbank in a post on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #FoodFightHunger, and you'll be thrown into the mix for a gift card prize package. Just be sure to hang on to your receipts, as winners will need to prove their purchases to claim rewards.
