Go local this Thanksgiving with Great River Farms
Before you make that big run to the grocery store for all your Turkey Day trimmings, have you thought about where your produce is coming from? We know. You've got enough to worry about already, right? Good news: A group of area sustainable farmers is making it easy to smartly source smart your Thanksgiving feast.
Great River Farms-an organic Ohio farm collective that normally provides produce to its members only-is offering a special Thanksgiving Box for members and non-members alike. The promise is a market bag filled with local and sustainable produce and herbs (from farms like Wayward Seed, Sippel Family and Dangling Carrot); enough to create seven side dishes and two pies to feed six guests (recipes and a sample menu included).
What's more, 50 percent of the profits from every purchase of a Thanksgiving Box will go toward providing fresh produce to the Clintonville Resource Center and the Broad Street Food Pantry.
And if you're still in need of the turkey, good news-each of the pickup locations have local birds for sale. (Just be sure to call to reserve your bird before you stop by.)
Thanksgiving Boxes are $75 and can be reserved here. Produce will be ready for pickup between 5 and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25. Choose from the following three pickup locations when you order: Clintonville Community Market, Bexley Natural Market and Greener Grocer at The North Market.
