Where to eat on New Year's Eve

Beth Stallings, Columbus Crave

Confession time: For me, New Year's Eve is a little overrated. It always feels like a forced holiday-like if you don't send off the year with a bang, you'll be cursed for the following 365 days. I'm not that superstitious. Give me a night-quiet or boisterous, I've done them both-with good company and a nice bottle of bubbly, and I feel like I've welcomed in 2015 in exactly the right style.

This irreverence for the end of the year is also why I (eek!) just started making plans. So all of you who are like me, who realized you've got only two weeks to go until 2015, here's a last-minute guide to snagging a dinner reservation for Dec 31.

I enjoyed a New Year's dinner at The Refectory last year with five courses from a special menu ($89) and wine pairings (extra cost) accompanied by live music. They have the same deal again this year with a new menu of French-inspired dishes with reservations starting at 4:30 p.m.

Wolf's Ridge Brewing is offering a special three-course, prix fixe dinner for $45. A vegetarian menu is also available for $35.

Lindey's is offering a $70, three-course dinner with a lengthy list of choices for each course.

If you want an intimate setting, there are a few spots left for both of the two seatings (5:30 p.m. for $150/person and 9 p.m. for $165/person) at Veritas Tavern. The Delaware restaurant will feature seven courses with drink pairings. Dishes are inspired by culinary notables such as Thomas Keller, Grant Achatz and Curtis Duffy.

Inside the Hilton, Gallerie Bar & Bistro is featuring two options: an early seating at 4:30 p.m. for a $75, four-course dinner; or 7:15 p.m. for $150, which includes five courses, a seafood tower for the table and a bottle of Champagne. Cost includes tax, gratuity and parking.

Spagio will have a pared down, a la carte version of its regular menu with dinner service from 5 to 11 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

Downtown, Manifesto will have its regular menu, plus a list of specials from new chef Max Rice III, as well as music from the Jimmy McGee Trio Band. Sister restaurant De-Novo will have a limited menu with chef specials as well, plus live tunes from Sabrina Tutstone.

After a quick perusal of Open Table, here's a quick look at some great eateries, with no set NYE menus announced yet, that are still taking reservations: G. Michael's Bistro & Bar, The Sycamore, Due Amici, Till Dynamic Fare, The Top Steakhouse, Cooper's Hawk and The Whitney House. Rigsby's Kitchen also has a few slots left for dinner on Dec. 31.
