Middle West Spirits expanding its Columbus facility

With an ever-expanding line of vodkas, bourbons and whiskies, local distiller Middle West Spirits has outgrown its 10,000-square-foot home in the Short North.

So the urban micro-distillery is adding a second location-a 23,000-square-foot warehouse facility at the old Timken Co. site at Cleveland and East Fifth avenues. The new space will give Middle West room to store aging barreled spirits, raw materials and its culinary vinegar line Tavern Vinegar Co. (a partnership with Cleveland chef Jonathon Sawyer). It will also provide breathing room for 2,500 square feet of new office space to house new hires, as well as new bottling equipment.

Middle West's warehouse won't be alone here. Other planned developments for the Milo Grogan area include North High Brewing's production facility, the Jeffrey Place development, as well as the Rogue Fitness project announced this year. The site was wooing Stone Brewing Co. before the California brewery announced its expansion to Virginia.

Middle West, which crafts small batch spirits under the OYO label, will continue to distill products and host customers for tours and tastings at 1230 Cortland Ave. According to Middle West co-founder Brady Konya, the expansion coincides with a planned re-investment in the Short North space.
