Cool Off with Columbus' New Class of Frozen Treats

Beth Stallings

As kids, we loved saccharine, syrupy Popsicles with flavors that could only be described as colors. But Columbus' new wave of fresh fruitice popshas us giddy as school girls with a new crush. There's J-Pops-the veteran cart and wholesaler that mashes herbs and fruit into frozen treats. Run by a dietetics grad from Ohio State, Rime Time is a mobile cart new to city streets, serving ice pops in curious flavors that are also good for you. And holding up the Mexican tradition of paletas-bright, fresh-fruit-filled ice pops-is Diamonds Ice Cream, off Bethel Road. Diamonds co-owners Carlos and Jose Torres craft more than 70 sweet, savory and spicy paleta flavors in small batches. Here, a look at a few of our favorite finds from these frozen treat pros.
