The Scoop: Five things to know in Columbus dining news

Every week, Crave editors dish on five things we're gabbing about in Columbus food news. Here's the latest, including Crave's Chef's Menu event, the new Jury Room tenant, Salty Caramel's return to Jeni's scoop shops and more.
Forgive this brief moment of self-promotion, but we're too excited about the coming week not to share. Crave's new dining out event-Chef's Menu-kicks off Friday, Aug.28 and runs through Friday, Sept. 4. We've tasked some of the city's most talented chefs to craft tasting menus that tell a story of who they are as cooks. Here's what we're looking forward to trying.
One of Columbus' most historic tavern spaces has seen a revolving door of owners and concepts over the years. The former Jury Room and 1831 Tavern (the latter iteration closed in July) will reopen as Blind Lady Tavern on Monday, Aug. 31. It will be a pre-Prohibition-themed bar.
Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams signature flavor-Salty Caramel-returns to scoop shops on Friday after a nearly four-month hiatus. Jeni Britton Bauer is touting this batch as the best version yet. Here's what the ice cream queen had to say about it.
Cravings Carryout Cafe is in search of a new home after getting word that their lease wouldn't be renewed. It's unfortunate news for the 400-square-foot cafe and bakeshop that was seemingly gaining momentum this year, especially with the growing restaurant traffic in their Italian Village neighborhood. Sept. 12 will be their last day in business at 227 E. Third Ave.
Starting Saturday, Downtown's Red Velvet Cafe will be serving a Filipino brunch menu. The special will be available 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. A few dishes they've been teasing out via social media: Garlic Fried Rice with Longanisa (sweet, spiced sausage), fried egg, pickled vegetables, and spiced coconut vinegar, and Adobo Glazed Wings and Ube Waffles with a Coconut Caramel Syrup.
