After Hours: Lidia Labra of Los Potosinos

Jill Moorhead

Lidia Labra began selling her famous pollo al carbon (or grilled chicken) to friends to make money after losing her job. The chicken and its special marinade sparked a new career for Labra. The San Luis Potosi, Mexico, native opened Los Potosinos after a friend gave her a grill. Home cooking soon led to a food truck business, and her chicken has been a staple on East Long Street ever since. She shared a few of her personal favorite destinations from around town.

Restaurant for the Family: House of Japan. “We're always looking for Chef Osmin. If he's busy, we'll wait for him. I like the filet mignon, the salmon, the shrimp and rice. It's the best place for time with the family.”

Takeout: “I always get the gyro from Panini Opa in Dublin. Their food is fresh, fast and delicious. And their owner is so nice.”

Sweet Spot: Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. “I like the Brown Butter Almond Brittle.”

Food Truck: King Luis Tacos. “I like their quesadillas de chicharron. Oh my goodness. Just thinking about them makes me hungry.”
