After Hours: TeeShanee Johnson

Jill Moorhead

Johnson is a bona fide foodie, and when she's not working at Jason Wolff Pottery, the Columbus College of Art and Design graduate serves up fresh salads and flatbreads at Veranico Kitchen + Provisions, the new Arena District restaurant operated by the folks from Market 65. “The food is super fresh,” she says about why she loves her job. “I really appreciate that.” We asked the Short North resident where she likes to eat and drink around town.

Best Dive Bar: Carabar. “I fell in love with them during college, their weekly specials and how amazing their food was. The falafel. The dollar tacos. The vegetarian hot dogs. The coneys. It's always fun to grab a meal and be around funky folks.”

Cocktail Bar: Mouton. “I live around the corner from there. If you order something off of their signature menu, it's going to taste the same every time, and I love that.”

Takeout: Oats & Barley Market. “I won't sit and order there, but I like their ready-to-eat meals. They partner with a company called Graze, and the mac 'n' cheese they have is so good. It's seasoned really well, which I appreciate.”

Comfort Food: “I love Philco caramelized Brussels sprouts alongside their baked grits. The sprouts have goat cheese and toasted pecans. Anytime I go there, I have to order, even if it's just for drinks. And the baked grits—loaded up with chorizo—are a dream. And the staff is lovely.”
