The Scoop: Park Street Poultry & Game opens; Winans nears Downtown opening

Mike Bambeck will unveil Park Street Poultry & Game at the North Market this Saturday, June 17, taking over the spot recently vacated by North Market Poultry & Game. Bambeck, who owned a sign shop in Dublin for 17 years, is partnering with Brooke Hayes of Speckled Hen Farm and The Cluckwagon Food Truck to sell all-natural chickens, sausages and eggs. According to a press release, Speckled Hen will also raise “small batch, gourmet-fed, pastured chicken that will only be available at North Market” in addition to sourcing poultry and game from other Ohio farms. Kitchen Little, the prepared foods arm of North Market Poultry & Game, has also closed and Bambeck plans to announce a similar offering in the next few weeks.

In other North Market news, Green Olive Company, a seller of extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars, is now open in the market and has closed its stand-alone location at 861 N. High St.

The new Downtown location of Winans Chocolates & Coffee holds its soft opening next week. Located in the Highpoint building at 216 S. High St., this is the third Central Ohio location for the Piqua-based chocolatier and coffee roaster. The Downtown shop will be open daily and expand its offerings to include wine.

Secret Vessel has closed in the Old North and been replaced by N.E. Chinese Restaurant at 2620 N. High St. The restaurant offers a menu of Dongbei-style cuisine from the northeastern region of China in addition to Americanized Chinese standards. Dongbei cuisine is known for its stews and suan cai, a pickled cabbage dish similar to sauerkraut.

Trism, a new Campus-area fast-casual restaurant, bar and event space from A&R Creative Group (The Crest, Alchemy, Market Italian Village) is now open at 1636 N. High St., which was formerly occupied by Eddie George’s Grille 27.

City Egg, a new fast-casual concept from Scramblers, is now open for breakfast and lunch at 1478 Bethel Rd.

Soulshine Tavern & Kitchen in now open at 266 E. Main St. in New Albany.

LeBron James’ Blaze Pizza opened a second Central Ohio location at 7166 N. High St. in Worthington.

Chicago-based, deep-dish specialist Giordano’s Pizza opens its first Ohio location at 2137 Polaris Pkwy. on Monday, June 26.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) awarded Columbus City Schools a farm-to-school grant of nearly $100,000 that will help to boost the availability of fresh fruit in cafeterias. According to a CCS press release: “The plan is to purchase a fresh apple cutting system which will clean, slice, preserve, weigh and bag local apples to be served in elementary schools. Cafeteria surveys have revealed that students eat more of the apples when pre-sliced.”
