Hands On: Colorful Winter Scene

Olivera Bratich
This Colorful Winter Scene requires just a few materials.

The cold winter season may seem devoid of color, but with a little crafty imagination, you can make a winter landscape come to life.

  • Tissue paper
  • Decoupage glue (Mod Podge or similar)
  • Blue and white cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Sponge brush
  • Hole punch

1. Cut or tear tissue paper into pieces approximately a half-inch to 1 inch in size and in a variety of shapes.

2. Use a sponge brush to apply decoupage glue to a piece of white cardstock. Work in sections, a few inches at a time.

3. Place enough tissue paper pieces onto the wet glue to cover the cardstock.

4. Apply a second layer of glue over each completed section.

5. Repeat until the entire paper is covered, and let it dry.

6. Use a piece of blue cardstock for the background to the scene. Cut or tear white cardstock to create a snow-covered ground, attaching it with glue.

7. Cut the decoupage paper into triangles of various sizes. Glue these “trees” to the background.

8. Use a hole punch to make white cardstock “snowflakes.” Sprinkle these on the background and glue them into place.
