Cadence Scott enjoyed getting together with friends to celebrate her 10th birthday, but the icing on the cake was learning some new baking skills. During her party at Our CupCakery in Dublin, Cadence and her guests tried several cake decorating techniques.

“I got several calls from parents saying they couldn't believe how good the kids' cupcakes turned out,” said her mother, Kristen Scott. “The cupcakes were adorable. I feel like I benefited as an adult by being there and listening.”

She and Cadence chose the learn-to-decorate theme because they enjoy baking together. Business owner Linda Kick did a good job making the event fun and educational, Scott said. “The party was fabulous,” she said. “She's so patient and so kind. The kids really enjoyed it.”

Kick, who previously taught elementary school and college-levelhotel and restaurant management, opened the bakery 12 years ago. She said she and her staff want guests to learn new skills so they can create appetizing treats.“Kids are really interested to trydecorating, and we want to make sure their cakes and cupcakes look as professional as possiblebecause that's what they have seen and expect their cakes to look like,” she said. “They love decorating because it's fun and allows them to be creative.”
