Ranting & rating

You're already stuck with the classes you scheduled this quarter, so don't be surprised to discover a mixed bag of professors, from inspirational to unbearable. In the event that you've saddled yourself with some doozies, gut it out for the rest of the term and remember to check these professor-rating sites next time - before scheduling some jerk for biology just because it lets you sleep in until 3 p.m. We've sorted out the useful resources from the useless copycats.

Worth your time: RateMyProfessors.com

Rate My Professors seems to be the gold standard, with a mother lode of ratings and comments for 3,703 Ohio State instructors. Search by name, department, average rating, overall quality, ease and even hotness. As for the hotness, see for yourself - several profs have photos on their profiles. Besides all the professorial intel, the site links to a humorous mtvU-sponsored spin-off called Professors Strike Back.

Waste of time: KnowYourProfessor.com

Considering this site doesn't have any Ohio State listings, it probably won't be much help for Buckeyes looking to sift through the hulking mass of class options. Don't bother with this pale imitation.

Worth your time: PickAProf.com

Pick-A-Prof isn't perfect, but it might have something worthwhile depending on what you're looking for. It offers the ability to search by course, and it lists lots of professors, but many of them haven't been rated. What it lacks in its primary function it makes up for with a personal organizer tool that allows you to keep track of your schedule and can be embedded into your Facebook profile.

Waste of time: RateAProf.com

OSU's Public Health department gets a thorough assessment here. The rest of the university? Not so much. And for Columbus' other colleges and universities? Tumbleweeds.
