'Scarysville' festivities set for Friday
The streets of the Historic Uptown Marysville business district will be transformed into "Scarysville" from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, as the community celebrates Halloween.
Trick-or-treat will take place at local businesses along with pumpkin decorating, scarecrow decorating and costume contest.
"Scarysville" is hosted by the Uptown Renewal Team (URT), a public/private partnership created to transform the Uptown area into a vibrant hub of activity.
A variety of children's activities are planned, including the Big Mac Train, balloon artistry by Luke the Juggler, ghost stories, music, food and more. A new event this year is "Build Your Own ScareCrow." Participants are asked to bring their own outfits and the stuffing (straw). The prize for the best scarecrow is a family fun package including movie tickets to Marysville Cinema and a gift certificate to East of Chicago Pizza.
Uptown favorite Stan Stein will D.J. during "Scarysville," offering residents the opportunity to dance to classics including "Thriller" and "Monster Mash" on Main Street. At 7:30 p.m., the URT will host a costume contest for adults and children. Prizes will be given to the top two individuals/groups in each category.
Also new this year is Wicked Windows, sponsored by the Union County Cultural Arts pARTnership. Children in grades K-12 are welcome to check in at the corner of 5th and Main streets to obtain a window of their own. Children will create Halloween and autumn scenes; the pARTnership will supply the paint and brushes.
