Canines, cats & cosmos

The Capital Area Humane Society is going glitzy to celebrate its 125th anniversary as a nonprofit organization. The theme for this year's annual Paws fundraiser is Rex and the City, and it's an homage to those four cosmo-loving women who took the big screen by storm this summer.

So, besides a Pawtini Bar, what can attendees expect at the event?

"Think of it as a holiday party," said humane society spokeswoman Cheri Miller. "It's right after work, so some people will come in business attire, others will be dressed up for the event. You can wear whatever works for you."

The $125 ticket price includes dinner, entertainment, live auctions and silent auction items. Up to 650 guests are expected to attend.

In keeping with the Rex and the City theme, dinner features a New York strip steak and one of the live-auction items is a trip to New York. Some of the silent-auction items include autographed OSU memorabilia, golf packages, pet products, jewelry and wine tastings.

And it's guilt-free spending - all proceeds are going toward dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals that need help. More than 95 percent of the humane society's funding comes from donations and fees for service.
