Playoff pursuit

Week in review

The regular season is over in most leagues. Are you in or out?

Even if you're out, you still need to pay attention. Today is the first day of the 2009 season. Look at guys that no one had really heard of at the draft. RB Peyton Hillis, RB Pierre Thomas, QB Tyler Thigpen and so on. Take notes, file them away and keep reading No Huddle Offense.

And if you're still in, congrats! Notable this past week: QB Matt Schaub returned with a vengeance. RB Maurice Jones-Drew did just fine in cold Chicago against a solid run D.

Your starters find a way to get points. QB Matt Ryan, on the road, out-threw QB Drew Brees. RB Steve Slaton has really come on strong in the past few weeks.

Who to Start

One thing you want to look at - who needs it most? In other words, if a player's "real" team is very much in the hunt, that bodes well for you.

The Colts need a win to stay in the playoff chase, and they face the Lions. All Indy players and the D/ST are no-brainer starts. Look for a shootout in the ATL, where the aforementioned Ryan will duel with the resurgent QB Jeff Garcia.

QB Jason Campbell finally gets a favorable matchup against the Bengals. RB Adrian Peterson may have a tough go of it in the desert against the Cardinals D, but he brought you this far. RBs Jonathon Stewart and DeAngelo Williams should again pull solid numbers.

Waiver Wire Watch

Check those defenses for favorable matchups. At this point, most everyone in your league is down to one D, so there should be something good available. Same with kickers. You obviously want to look at weather forecasts, in particular.
