Go Western

Mankind's relentless quest to control the weather notched another triumph several years ago, when a giant indoor water park opened on the East Side. Fort Rapids isn't just some heated pool with a silly slide. This is a full-fledged aquatic adventure - by far the most comprehensive Western-themed water park in the Midwest.

Much of the family-friendly, 84-degree oasis is set up for younger kids who like to shoot water guns and stand beneath a large bucket of water. But if you're at least 18 years old and 48 inches tall, you've got free reign of all the more adventurous tubes, chutes and slides that extend from a building you've likely gawked at from I-70.

On Black Out Pass, you rush downward before entering a giant swirling toilet bowl, doing sweet 360s. Four-lane Shoot Out Racer is an exhilarating face-first race against your friends, and both Ambush Alley and Raging Bull rival your favorite outdoor tube slides. When you're tuckered, there's a 30-person hot tub and a lazy river floating through the 60,000-square-foot expanse.

Admission costs $27 daily, $22 after 4 p.m.
