Chris Aul, L. Ac. of Columbus Acupuncture and Wellness Center explained that for the treatment of allergies and asthma, Chinese medicine doesn't just look at the lungs or basic symptoms, it studies the whole body.

Using traditional Chinese medicines, Aul determines where the body is out of balance. He looks to see if there is anything that shows the body is in a weakened state by studying the eyes and the tongue and by utilizing pulse testing.

Aul lists these five major stressors that can create a weakness or imbalance in the body which can lead to allergy and asthma symptoms:

1. Foods

2. Immune challenges such as bacteria, viruses, fungus or parasites

3. Heavy metals such as mercury, aluminum or lead

4. Chemicals such as pesticides or poisons

5. Any type of scar tissue
