This past weekend I took my 4-year-old son to see the new movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
Inspired by the children's book by Judi Barrett, the movie is about a young inventor, Flint Lockwood, who is bound and determined to invent something that will improve people's lives. Living in a town where people only eat sardines, Flint and his trusty sidekick Steve, a monkey, invent a machine that makes food fall from the sky like rain.
The movie was cute and definitely kept the attention of my 4-year-old. I found myself giggling several times and overall I enjoyed the animation (although the characters looked a tad rubbery at times.) For older kids, the movie has messages about family, perseverance, integrity, camaraderie and community.
But for my son, it was all about the food falling from the sky and the monkey. Because hey, things are always funnier when monkeys are involved.
If you get a chance, check it out. It's a nice way to spend an afternoon or a lazy weekend day with your kids.
