Free Workshops at the Riffe
Here's an outstanding free family event to get motile-vating on (as my kids used to say, back when they were young enough to mangle words in fascinating ways): Did you know that the Riffe Gallery hosts free family workshops to coincide with all their art exhibits? They're that great space on the ground floor of the Vern Riffe Center (the big building at the northwest corner of High and State streets, 77 S. High St. to be precise).
Their new Deep Space: Ohio Photographers exhibit just opened on July 29 and will run through Oct. 17. In conjunction with the exhibit, the Riffe Gallery will host a free family workshop on Sept. 19 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for kids, ages 6 to 17 (plus an accompanying adult). During the workshop, they'll piece together images and text from old magazines to create a collage that represents something important to them.
So here's the part where you have to motile-vate: You need to pre-register because space is limited. Registration just started last Thursday starts on Thursday, July 29, online at www.riffegallery.org.
In the meantime, you can toddle by and check out the free exhibit. The gallery opens at 10 a.m. every Tuesday through Friday. It closes at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, and 8 p.m. on Thursdays. And it's open from 12 noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Riffe Gallery is closed on Mondays and state holidays. For more information, visit their website or call 614-644-9624.
