In my Home Base column today in the Dispatch’s Life section, I talked about the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, a piece of federal legislation that spells out parents’ rights to view their children’s education records.

As my Dispatch colleague Randy Ludlow tells me, many parents do not realize what their rights are -- for viewing records, requesting amendments of inaccurate or incorrect information, and filing complaints with the U.S. Department of Education if they feel their rights have been violated by a school district.
