Alive's Cocktail Contest: Strawberry Basil Martini
Any place that serves both the Pixy Tini and the Pop Rocks Martini (rimmed with real-deal Pop Rocks!) knows how to have fun with alcohol, so we were excited to see what the mixologist at Bar 23 would dream up for our contest. And we were very pleased with bartender Jack Scheper's sweet strawberry drink given an upscale twist with muddled fresh basil.
Fun fact: Basil has been one of our favorite unexpected martini ingredients ever since we fell for the High Hat cocktail (muddled basil and grapes with vodka and ginger ale, yum!) at the now-closed Encore at Handke's.
Strawberry Basil Martini
5 basil leaves
1 slice of lemon
1 oz Stoli citrus vodka
1 oz Stoli strawberry vodka
1/2 oz Bacardi Dragon Berry Rum
1 oz lemonade
1/2 oz cranberry
Muddle strawberry, basil and lemon, then add the other ingredients and shake. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a slice of strawberry.
